Mary Lou Hartsuch, 93, a resident of Davenport and formerly of Woodridge, Illinois, died on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Ridgecrest Village.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home-Davenport. Visitation will be at noon with memorial service at 1PM. Interment will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Salvation Army or First Baptist Church of Davenport.
Mary Lou was born on December 8, 1927 in Flint, Michigan. She was the daughter of Levi and Dorothy (Pullen) Holmes. Mary Lou married Grover Paul Hartsuch on June 13, 1948 in Flint, Michigan. They met at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. She graduated with a bachelors degree in Medical Technology. They have celebrated 73 years of marriage.
Mary Lou was a science teacher for many years at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School in Woodridge, Illinois. She earned her Masters Degree in Education from National Louis University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Davenport. She enjoyed playing the piano, community oriented ministries, conservative politics, studying scientific processes, and initiating thoughtful discussions among family members.
Those left to honor Mary Lou’s memory include her husband, Grover Hartsuch, Davenport; children: Paul (Mary) Hartsuch of Geneva, Illinois; Susan (Jim) Davids of The Villages, Florida; and Dr. David (Christine) Hartsuch of Bettendorf; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister Alice (Joe) Coyner. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Holmes.
