Mary T. Sulentic, 95, most recently of Des Moines, Iowa passed away Monday October 22, 2018 at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born in Consul, Iowa, August 14, 1923, the youngest of six siblings, and graduated from Albia High School in May 1941, seven months before the start of World War 2.
She grew up on a farm North of Albia, the daughter of Barney and Teresa Pellegrino. She lived most of her early life in Albia. On May 23, 1953 she married Carl Sulentic, had two children and enjoyed 44 years of marriage. Mary’s first jobs out of high school were at Ben Franklin, and McClellan’s. She worked at First Iowa State Bank for many years. In 1973, she took a Deputy Clerk position at the Monroe County Clerk’s office. She was elected Monroe County Clerk of Court in 1980. She retired in Jan 1985 at age 62, and moved to Buffalo, IA in 1985. Carl preceded Mary in death in January, 1998.
Survivors include one son, Christopher Sulentic of Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Jean (Tim) Vandygriff of Colfax, IA; three grandsons, Aaron Sulentic of Boston, Mass; Ben Vandygriff of Chicago, IL; and Seth Vandygriff of Des Moines, IA.
A visitation will be held Monday, October 29, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 N. Main Street, Davenport, Iowa followed by a graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Buffalo Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Taylor Hospice House, 3401 E Douglas Ave, Des Moines, IA 50317.
