Mary J. Kimes

Mary JoAnne Kimes, 46, of Buffalo, Iowa, passed away Friday September 16, 2022, surrounded by her family. A funeral service will be held on at 11 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Private family burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo, IA. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at funeral home. There will be additional visitation Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mary was born July 14, 1976 in Davenport, the daughter of Gerald and Judith (Foulks) Downs.  She was a 1994 graduate of Davenport West High School. She married Jon Kimes on October 13, 2012.

Mary enjoyed gardening, movies, kayaking, birdwatching, hiking, and fishing with her husband Jon. Mary was a talented cook who was known for her delicious meals, and was often found in her kitchen cooking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed baking treats from scratch. Mary was proud of her Irish heritage, an avid reader, and a knowledgeable houseplant lover, caring for a large assortment of plants throughout her home.

Mary reached out to lend a hand to neighbors and friends whenever needed. When her life on Earth ended, her giving spirit was honored with the gift of being an organ donor. She was a friend to all animals, and Mary's soul was nurtured by long walks in nature.

Mary's greatest love was her two sons, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments. She also adored her pets, especially her dog Violet, who brought her much comfort over the past months.

Mary's spirit touched everyone who knew her and she will be missed by all who love her, leaving the world a little less bright without her in it.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jon; father Gerald; sons Kyle McClure and Alex Fox; brothers Jerry (Dawn) Downs and John (Kris) Downs; a sister, Kathleen (Jim) Sandry; many nieces and nephews, and her faithful companion Violet. She was preceded in death by her mother, Judy, nephew, Quinton, and her dog, Sadie.
