Mary Julius, age 100, entered into eternal life on September 14th, 2023
Funeral and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, October 4th, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th St, Bettendorf with visitation being held from 9:30am until the time of mass at the church. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the church.
Mary was born June 2nd. 1923 in Fort Dodge Iowa, daughter of Ruth and Leo O’Connor. Mary was the widow of Clarence Julius to whom she was married for 54 years.
Mary was a loving wife and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be remembered for her love of children and animals, her dutiful yet playful nature, her childlike imagination, her nurturing care, open hospitality, and countless family meals. Mary enjoyed playing card games, going to the riverboat with friends, gardening, drawing and painting flowers and birds and Buster Bars. With much encouragement she would skillfully accompany a song by playing the spoons. Mary was an avid football fan and never missed a chance to see the Hawkeyes or the Bears.
Mary is survived by two daughters Kathy Kussatz and son-in-law Joe, Nancy Glessner and son-in-law Richard, and three sons, Richard Julius, Paul Julius and daughter-in-law Peg, Tom Julius and daughter-in-law Kay, eight grandchildren; Christine Phillips, Richard A. Glessner, Ryan Julius, Tanner Julius, Andrew Julius, McKenzie Perkins, Lindsey Young, and Kellie Julius, greatgrandchildren; Maicie Calvert, Andrew (AJ) Glessner, Kyle Phillips, Ryan Glessner, Jason Phillips, Ryan and Emma Young.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence T. Julius.
