Mary was born February 1936 in Rickardsville, Iowa the daughter of Clarence and Clara (Wagner) Heri. They were a farm family of three girls who had to work as hard as any boy. She attended grade school in a one room school house at Five-Points, where she was a spelling champion.
Mary married William Haas in 1958. She worked at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works as a secretary. Mary was also a stay-at-home mom, and when the kids went off to school, she continued her working career at several doctor’s offices.
Mary was a yard person who had flowers everywhere and loved every minute of all the work it took to care for them. She didn’t know a weed she couldn’t kill. Mary learned to like watching sports from her husband. At first, she was a Minnesota Vikings fan, liking Fran Tarkington, but while living in Green Bay, switched to Bart Starr after her kids met him in a downtown store, and he was very nice to them. Currently, she was a “kinda” Cubs fan.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Bill; children, Brian, Sara, Connie, and Tobin; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy; and numerous in-laws.
She will be dearly missed by her family.
