Mary passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024, at MercyOne Genesis East, Davenport. This was her 54th wedding anniversary and her loving husband was by her side.
Mary Yvonne was born October 7, 1949, in Davenport, the first daughter of James and Geneva (King) Wiegand.
Mary was united in marriage to Paul Fredenburg on October 31, 1970, while Paul was on army leave, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport.
Prior to her retirement she had worked for many years in healthcare administration.
Mary was a beautiful, brilliant, loving, strong, and proud wife, mother, “Nana” (grandmother), sister, and proverbial “rock” to many. She generously gave of her time, talents and true wisdom to her husband, her sons, grandchildren, all of her siblings and their children and their children’s children, to her aunts, uncles and cousins. She was especially giving of herself to her mother whom she loved deeply and welcomed into her home until her own recent passing. Her prodigious generosity, strong wit, infectious laugh, unending empathy, and strong sense of justice made her a role model to all of her family, especially her sons and grandchildren. In her spare time Mary was a voracious reader, and self proclaimed night owl. She often stayed up late to finish a book or to talk late into the night with friends and loved ones in need of her advice or a chat. Mary was a true confidant who made everyone feel special, understood, and appreciated. She took pride in the beautiful home she built and lovingly decorated. This home was full of love and served as the main family gathering place. Mary also loved the Hawkeyes and was extremely proud to be an Iowan.
She was loved deeply by her family and was an irreplaceable source of love, joy, strength, confidence, tranquility and hope who will be missed beyond measure. Who do we turn to now?
Survivors include her husband, Paul Fredenburg; sons Joshua Fredenburg, Rockton, IL, Aaron (Brittany) Fredenburg, Oswego, IL; grandchildren Geneva, Christopher J. “CJ”, Ava, Hazel, Harper; siblings James W. Wiegand, Jeffery (Judy) Fleming – Wiegand, all of Davenport, Monica (Craig) Hilgenberg, Cedar Rapids, Christopher Threlkeld – Wiegand, Iowa City; and many loving extended family members.
