Mary Catherine Eckstein, 78, a resident of Davenport, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Davenport.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2023 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Mary Catherine Sterling was born on June 30, 1945 in Davenport, a daughter of George and Bertha “Holly” (Hollinrake) Sterling. Mary had done work for the Salvation Army, City of Davenport, and Target. She spent a great deal of her time volunteering at Sacred Heart, their food pantry, Red Cross, donating blood, and helping with a prayer shawl ministry.
Mary was a very talented crafter. She had Tri-Cam parties and loved making artificial flower arrangements, ornaments, macrame, and cross stitching. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping and riding bikes.
Survivors include her daughters: Carolyn Kay Eckstein, Davenport, Amy (Joseph) Gump, Plattsburg, Missouri, and Barbara Sims, Pacific, Missouri; grandchildren: Josh (Jessica Williams) Davis, Tia (Brian Williams) Davis, Alyx (Trenton Longton) Eckstein, and Sammy (Ben Vetter) Sims; nine great-great grandchildren, and a dear friend, Diana Boyd.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Tony, Margie, and Dan Sterling. May they rest in peace.
