Mary Ruth Decker, 90, of Winter Garden, Florida, formerly of Davenport, Iowa passed away Friday, September 16, 2022 at her home.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport with visitation taking place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Jane’s Place Adult Day Services at CASI, or St. Patrick’s Society. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary was born on June 18, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of James and Margaret (Grogan) Frawley.
Mary graduated from Sabula High School in 1950 and later from Scott Community College in 1986 with her nursing certificate. She worked at Mercy Hospital for many years and retired from CASI in 2006. Mary was a long time member of CASI and of the St. Patrick’s Society. She was Irish Mother in 2001. She was also a religious coordinator for the Diocese of Davenport.
There was nothing more important to Mary than her family and her faith. She loved to sew items for her loved ones such as aprons that will forever be cherished. She enjoyed nothing more than to see her family gathered around her while she enjoyed a Guinness.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Steven (Tee) Decker Teresa (Cile) Decker, David (Elvia) Decker, and Lynne (Mary) Banks; grandchildren Emily, Kristie, Courtney, Catie, Thomas, Matthew and Ashley; great grandsons Christopher, James, great granddaughters Catlynn, Evie, baby Morrison on the way and sister Colleen Ballas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sister Joan Grimm, son James Decker, and grandson John Banks.
