Marti Briggs

Marti Lyn Briggs, 45, of Davenport, passed away May 31, 2018 at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.  Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.  The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Her family wishes to invite family and friends to continue the celebration of Marti’s life for a luncheon at Noon at the Col Ballroom, Davenport.

Marti was born September 1, 1972 in Davenport, Iowa, a daughter of Michael E. and Linda Lee (Pace) Rhoades. She was united in marriage to John Briggs on May 24, 2005.

Marti was a devoted mother to her children, and cherished her time with them. She attended so many of their sporting events that she soon became known as the “Concessions Lady” as she volunteered for many years at the Davenport West Little League.  She was also once labelled a coach for T-ball.  Her sons were the light of her life and she was incredibly proud of the young men she and John had raised.  Marti was also an avid journalist and prided herself on once interviewing Jesse Jackson.

Survivors include her husband and their 3 amazing sons; David "D.J.", Zackery, and Dustin Briggs, all of Davenport and a stepdaughter, Megan Briggs, LeClaire; her mother, Linda Rhoades, Muscatine; sister, Angie Rhoades, Bettendorf; brother, Charlie Rhoades, Muscatine; her stepmother, Tonya Rhoades, Davenport; stepbrothers, Jeremy Lueders, Davenport and Kevin Lueders, Virginia;  and numerous loving nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Michael E. Rhoades and both maternal and paternal grandparents.  May they rest in peace.
