Marriettia C. “Mary” Nordholm, 64, of East Moline, was never the fighting type, until she had to be. After fighting her second battle with cancer God saw her getting tired and knew she needed rest. He called to her eternal home on Monday, March 7, 2022, in Iowa City, Iowa. Per her wish the rite of cremation was accorded and a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Noon on Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 10:30am until time of service at the Funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Marriettia Charlene Hubbard was born on February 12, 1958, in Silvis, a daughter of George Franklin and Nellie Frances Hubbard (Hogg). She met her future husband Larry Nordholm, while they were young and working at the former D&J Laundry. They were united in marriage on May 21, 1976, in Green Rock, IL.
Marys primary job was being a mom first. She made breakfast each morning and was always willing to drive her kids and all her bonus kids to various activities after school. Once her children were a little older, she worked at Oscar Mayer/kraft foods and then later in life she worked as a security/dispatcher at Tyson in Joslin, Il.
She was a best friend to her husband of 45 years and a loving mother to their four children. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world. She loved to fish and spend summers in Minnesota, enjoyed camping, playing bingo and euchre. Although she couldn’t swim, she never let the fear of drowning keep her from; boating, taking the kids to the beach, or wading up to her knees in the lake. She loved to out-fish everyone and believe us, to her it was a competition!
Mary was a giver of the best hugs, a comforter, the driving force behind making Christmas gift giving extra special. She was also the #1 fan of her children and grandchildren. She loved going to sports or musical events for them all. No matter what her babies were doing she was proud of them and encouraged them. She loved the Lord and His light shined in all she did as a kindhearted, giving friend to all. She always had a smile to share and a story to tell (even to the stranger she just met at the store). Her wise words of “kill them with kindness”, “family is forever”, “if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all” and “I hope you have kids exactly like you” will forever ring in our ears. She will be forever loved and missed dearly.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband Larry and puppy Emma Rose; daughters Jessica (Jay) Weaver and Jamie (Billy) Richardson all of Davenport, Maryann Nordholm of Coal Valley; son Jeremy (Amy) Nordholm of Hampton, IL; grandchildren Ashley, Alyssa (Annie), Shayla, Karissa, Dalton, Donovan, James, Braiden, Landin, Addisyn, Abbey, Christopher, and Brandon; great grandchildren Carson, Zander, Bryant, Zayden, and Kyler; brother George (Sharon) Hubbard of Silvis; sisters Darletia Horton of East Moline and Melody (Donnie) Krack of Ottertail, MN; and many nieces, nephews, bonus children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Noveta Henry and brother Carl Hubbard.
Special thanks to: Hope lodge of Iowa City for your loving care and being a home away from home through the years, and Dr Hoffmann Iowa city for always going above and beyond in his care.
