Marjorie A. (Haut) McCabe, 86, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, February 22, 2025 at MercyOne-Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.
A gathering will be held on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with a prayer offered at the conclusion. Keeping with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
Marjorie took her first breath on August 15, 1938 in Davenport, in the same hospital at which she took her last breath. The youngest daughter of Fred and Bertha (Kuriger) Haut, Marjorie was loved dearly and raised at 2308 Grand Avenue in Davenport by her parents and her Aunt Bess. After graduating from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1956, she married William C. McCabe on June 10, 1960, later divorcing in 1981.
After retiring from retail sales in 2001, Marjorie enjoyed traveling with her sister Jean to visit Patty and our “Florida family”. She handcrafted beautiful and specialized Christmas ornaments, spent her time watching tennis, The Voice and scrolling through social apps as long as they didn’t “flip” on her. She became an avid women’s basketball fan in recent years.
She loved her family fiercely and built her life as our matriarch around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by her grandchildren for her unique driving skills, her unwavering loyalty, her constant presence, and her sense of humor (Grandma’s got jokes) and constant love.
She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Those left to honor her memory are her children: Lisa Jordan, Coal Valley and Sean McCabe, Moline; grandchildren: Ryan (Katie Brock) McCabe, Alyssa McCabe-Jordan, Anna (Nolan Coleman) Jordan, Tyler Jordan, and Caleb McCabe; great-grandchildren: Caroline, Cason, Kinzlee, Holden, Dallas, Jaiden, and Kylee, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Frank Haut, Fred Haut, Jr., Imogene Keppy, Patricia Whitmyer and Gary Haut. May they rest in peace.
