Marie Cowherd

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie A. Cowherd, 99, of Davenport will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is prior to Mass at church from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Marie died Thursday, January 25, 2018 at her residence. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, handled arrangements.

Marie Agnes Werthmann was born May 20, 1918 in Lime Springs, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Agnes (Hodges) Werthmann. She married William G. "Bill" Cowherd on Sept. 9, 1950 at Holy Family Church. He preceded her in death June 22, 1999. She was a member of Holy Family Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Marie worked at Northwest Bank retiring in 1980. She enjoyed puzzles, embroidery, and making rugs, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to her family.

Survivors include her children: Sue (Mike) Gahagan, Davenport, Steven (Pam) Cowherd, Bettendorf, Sheryl (Larry) Turner, Peoria, Ill., Sheila Cowherd, Davenport, Sid (Kari) Cowherd, Bettendorf, and Scott (Anna) Cowherd, Mattawan, Mich.; 14 grandchildren, Kate (Josh) Virgil, Kelly (Colin Donahue) Gahagan, Christopher (Lindsay) Cowherd, Michael (Cheri Thomas) Cowherd, Cori (Brad) Strebel, Matt Dickinson, Amanda (Josh) McHenry, Jerime (Megan) Cowherd, Tyler (Kera Linn) Cowherd, Megan Cowherd, Nichole (Drew) McGaughey, Ashley (Brennan) Aschelman, Lauren (Taylor) Doorlag, Ryan (Kate) Cowherd; 19 great grandchildren, Jackson, Kassidy, Ellie, Oscar, Madeleine, Winnie, Chloe, Cole, Cate, Weston, Zander, Cassandra, Caleb Caralynn, Lillian, Alexis, James, Elijah, and Claire; a sister Dorothy Ward; and numerous loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Frances Durand and Helen Walker and four brothers, Charles, Herbert, Edward, and John Werthmann, a brother-in-law, Russell Ward and a great granddaughter, Lila.
