Marianne Van Camp

Marianne Van Camp, 85, passed away peacefully at University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 8, 2022, after a brief illness.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2618 Boise Ave., Davenport, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022, and burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today (Sunday), October 9, 2022, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. that all are welcome to attend. There will be an additional visitation Monday at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Marianne was born to Gus and Ruth Donohoo on April 23, 1937 in Davenport.

Marianne married Albert Joseph (Joe) Van Camp Jr.  on September 7, 1957. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2017 following 60 years of marriage and memories.

Marianne was a homemaker and loved passing along favorite recipes like her famous Raisin Bread or sharing good food during family gatherings. She also acted as a host for a long-standing Bix Run Party at their home along the race route. Marianne enjoyed cooking, golfing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and loved to keep the family informed of game times and opponents though she knew absolutely nothing about any of the sports, she enjoyed watching! She also kept busy in later years serving on a variety of boards and committees for Ridgecrest Village retirement center

Survivors include her children, Albert Joseph “Joe” III (Patty), Scott (Sue), and Nick (Brenda), all of Davenport, Rick (Jeanne) of New London, Iowa, and Cindy (Van Camp) Sokoll (Pat) of Loveland, Colorado; 16 grandchildren; 19+ great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia McAfoos, and a brother, Bill Donohoo.

Marianne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Joseph Van Camp Jr.; and a grandson, Benjamin “Ben” Van Camp.

The family would like to express deep gratitude for the exceptional care that Marianne received from the University of Iowa Hospital Neuro Surgical unit, ICU team and the Palliative care team.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Alphonsus Parish or Assumption High School.
