Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Martinez, 82, of Davenport, will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. The Mass livestream may be viewed and remembrances expressed at www.hmdfuneralhome.com. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be one hour before Mass on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mrs. Martinez passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, surrounded by her loving family.

Maria Guadalupe Oropeza was born May 10, 1942, in Michoacan, Mexico, a daughter of Esequil Oropeza and Evonjilina Oropeza Valdez and moved to Davenport in 1957. She was united in marriage to Vincent Martinez on August 17, 1988, in Davenport.

She retired from Wonder Bread in 1991.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, traveling, playing cards, crocheting, and most importantly, spending time with her family. She loved to sing and watch movies as well. Her family will always remember her singing “Cucurrucucú Paloma”, and watching her favorite movie, “The Birds”.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Vincent; daughters Dolores “Lola” (Steve) DePooter, Rosie (Rory McIntyre) Zamora, Monica Zamora all of Davenport; sons Rupert Zamora of Davenport, Joe (Angel) Zamora of Emden, IL, Michael Zamora of Davenport; twenty grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; and her chihuahua “Chiquita Princess”.

She was preceded in death by an unborn son, daughter Lydia Bowling, grandson Dominick Zamora, parents, three sisters, three brothers, and dog “Chiquita”.
