Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret “Peg” Sexton, 78, of Davenport, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial will follow in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church, Alzheimer’s Association or Family Resources Inc.
Ms. Sexton passed away Friday, December 15, 2023, at Davenport Lutheran Home. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family.
Margaret Alice Schwerdtfeger was born February 26, 1945, in Davenport, a daughter of Harold and Margaret (Enderle) Schwerdtfeger Sr.
Peg worked for over 36 years at Family Resources Inc based at the Wittenmyer Youth Center in Davenport, starting as a cook and eventually becoming a residential counselor. In 1996 she was awarded Childcare Worker of the Year by the state of Iowa.
Her family was most important to her, and she enjoyed the time spent with them. She was a strong woman and weathered every storm that came into her life. In her retirement she enjoyed travelling.
Those left to honor her memory include her children Cheri Sexton of Davenport, Rick (Dottie) Sexton of Asbury, IA, Sean (Maureen Mondora) Sexton of Des Moines; grandchildren Mia Palen, Michael (Kristina) Sexton, Rick (Annie Stewart) Sexton, Brittney (Colton) Campbell, Patrick Dunfee, Kylie Miller, Andrew (Elizabeth) Miller, Alec Miller, Adrian Alread; great grandchildren Demetrius, Spencer, Prudence, Oliver, Teddy; brothers Harold (Shirley) Schwerdtfeger Jr of Bettendorf, Roger (Rosamary) Schwerdtfeger of Davenport; and in-laws Theresa Woodard, Sue Loose, Janie Richmiller, Kathy Creer, and Bill Sexton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Claire Krell, Nyline Six, brothers George, Harry, Glenn, James and Allen Schwerdtfeger, and mother-in-law Anne Sexton.
