Margaret Garnaas

June 4, 1930 — January 16, 2021

Margaret Garnaas, 90 a resident at the Good Samaritan Society, died Saturday, January 16, 2021 with her children at her side.

Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be 10:30 am Friday, January 22, 2021 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport.  Her service may be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/HMDFuneralHome/ . Per her wishes, the rite of cremation was accorded.  Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.  Due to the current health crisis, masks must be worn and social distancing respected. Memorials may be made to St Alphonsus.

Margaret was born June 4, 1930 the youngest child of Benard and Florence (Casey) Krebsbach. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo, North Dakota. She married Oliver Dion January 28, 1952 in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. They had three children. He preceded her in death in 1968 and she later married Paul Garnaas in Moline, Illinois June 13, 1969. He preceded her in death in 2003.

Margaret was a bartender at the Bettendorf VFW for more than twenty-five years. Her memberships include the VFW and the St. Alphonsus Altar and Rosary Society. Margaret enjoyed shopping, college basketball, dessert, and laughter.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, John (Donna) Dion of Columbus Junction, Jill (Charley)Troup of Davenport, Mary (Chris) Meyers of St. Louis, Gary (Carolyn) Garnaas of Bettendorf, Becky Garnaas of Davenport, Mary Beth Garnaas of Davenport, and David Garnaas of Davenport; fifteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the staff members at Good Samaritan who loved and cared for her through her last years and to Genesis Hospice for their services.  Your love and kindness will not be forgotten.
