Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Magdalen A. “Maggie” Reelfs will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 – 18th Street, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the gathering space at church. Committal prayers will be offered on Tuesday in the chapel at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque at 2:30 p.m. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Maggie died Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Senior Star Senior Living, Davenport
Magdalen Ann Utzig was born on December 17, 1944 in Dubuque, a daughter of Hilda (Stieren) and Arnold Utzig. She graduated from Dubuque Wahlert High School in 1963 and attended Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated from Wisconsin State University (Platteville) with her Bachelors and later her Masters of Science degrees in Elementary Education. She went on to also earn her Master of Arts in Education in 1985 from the University of Northern Iowa and was a certified rehabilitation counselor since 2007.
Maggie was united in marriage to Edward Albert Reelfs on September 4, 1965 at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque. They have shared over 59 years of marriage together.
Her career in education included stops as an elementary teacher in the Cuba City School District, Wisconsin, as a counselor at Hawkeye Institute of Technology and later for GENEX Services.
Maggie was a member of the American Association for Counseling and Development and the National Rehabilitation Association. She volunteered at the hospital and supporting women who were domestically abused.
Maggie was a gifted artist who was known for her ceramics and stained glass. She and Ed loved to travel around the world, always doing everything together. She was a ferocious reader and enjoyed cooking for the family. She loved her grandchildren, enjoyed people and had many friends. She was an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband, Ed, Davenport children: Quint (Lori) Reelfs, Topeka, Kansas and Jonna (Eric) Walker, St. Louis; grandchildren: Adam (Madi Tummons) Reelfs, Kansas City, Braden and Brinn Reelfs, Manhattan, Kansas and Nathan and Heather Walker, St. Louis; and a brother, Joseph Utzig, East Moline.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
