Louis Stender

Louis “John” Stender, 82, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, February 12, 2021 at his home.

A memorial gathering celebrating his life will be 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Scott County.

John was born December 27, 1938 in Davenport, the son of Louis and Elsie (Smallfeldt) Stender. He married Betty Tutor, December 27, 1980. She preceded him in death, November 17, 2019. John served his country in the United States Navy. He worked as a tool and die maker for Douglas Machine Shop, Rock Island Arsenal, and Eagle Engineering. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and boating.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Brad Stender of Shelby Township, Michigan and Carla Heim of Blue Grass; step-sons, Rickie Tutor of Corpus Christi, Texas and Kevin Tutor of Tuscola, Illinois; grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, Meranda, Melissa, and Andrea.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott; and sister, Alice Watson.
