Lorraine Young, 101, formerly of Cadillac Michigan, died May 28th 2024 at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport, Iowa. Per her request, cremation rites were accorded.
Lorraine was born July 8th 1922 in Bismarck, North Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Helen Warne. She graduated from Cadillac (Michigan) High School in June 1944. She married the love of her life, Floyd Young on March 21st 1945 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Cadillac. They were married sixty years until his death in 2005.
During World War II Lorraine worked in the defense industry making de-icing flaps on wings for the US army bomber force. After the war, Lorraine provided daycare for many years loving the opportunity to watch the young ones grow up. She also worked in the kitchen at St. Ann’s Catholic school alongside her mother preparing meals for the hungry students. She especially enjoyed being greeted as a rock star in public when encountering those kids.
Lorraine loved people and they loved her. She often quoted her mother saying: “Mama always said it doesn’t cost you anything to be nice to people and you will be amazed at what you get in return.” She loved her life to the end; being nice to people and in return was surrounded by wonderful people wherever she lived.
After retirement, Lorraine and her husband Floyd, left their beloved home in Michigan for a new adventure with their daughter and step-family in Brunswick, Georgia. While there she met many loving people often commenting about southern hospitality. At 95 years of age, Lorraine began a new adventure with family in Iowa.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Henry Warne, her husband Floyd Young, her sister Margaret Canright, brother Larry Warne and her daughter Mary Ellen Connell. She is survived by four nephews (Edward, Terry, Scott, Shawn), a niece Shelley, two step granddaughters (Donna, Diane), step grandson (Robert) and numerous great grandchildren, great nieces and great nephews.
