Funeral services and a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Lois M. Hughes, 93, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1506 Brown Street, Bettendorf. Inurnment will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport where a prayer service will be offered at 6:00 p.m. There will be additional visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass in the gathering space at the church. Mrs. Hughes died Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Senior Star Assisted Living, Davenport.
Lois Murray was born on March 11, 1924 in Chicago, IL, a daughter of Edward and Margaret (Hogan) Murray. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Hughes on February 7, 1948 at St. Gertrude’s Church, Chicago, IL.
Lois graduated from St, Frances School of Nursing and had formerly worked as a R.N. in the office of Dr. Kenneth McKay. She was a member of the Catholic Service Board for over 35 years and Our Lady of Lourdes Mt. Carmel Circle.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lourdes Catholic School or Assumption High School Kahl Home.
Survivors include her husband Robert and their children: Jerry (Alice) Hughes, West Chicago, IL, Kathy Kelley, Aledo, IL, Thomas (Linda) Hughes, Davenport, and Dan (Cathy) Hughes, Davenport, and Sally (William) Petersen, Freeport, IL, a son-in-law, Larry Smith, Cincinnati, OH; 19 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ellen Smith, granddaughter, Kim Wolfram, sister, Jean Heiser, brother, Edward, Jr., and a son-in-law R. Craig Kelley.
