Letha Knox

Homegoing celebrating the Life of Letha “Ms. Lee” Knox, 64, of Davenport, will be held at Noon on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Central Church of Christ, 4900 Northwest Blvd, Davenport.  Her homegoing will be livestreamed. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be from 11am until the time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family.

Ms. Knox passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Letha was born April 23, 1959, in Chicago, daughter of Albert and Ola Mae (Pryor) Johnson Sr.  She was united in marriage to Henry C. Rush Sr., and he preceded her in death.

Letha had a passion for reading, loved working with children and believed that no child should be left behind.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Ashford University and was an Educator for the Rock Island School District.  She was working towards her master’s at St. Ambrose University until her health forced her to retire.  She was also a Sunday school teacher and was instrumental in opening several daycare centers around the Quad-Cities.

Surviving are children Letha M. (fiancé Ronnell Humphrey) Knox of Davenport, Willie Williams of East Moline, Henry Rush Jr of Davenport, Donyale Wilcox-Jackson of Memphis, Aquarius Wilkinson of Las Vegas, Simeon Tate of Davenport, Nehemiah Rush of Davenport, Ebon’e Knox of Chicago, and Samuel Knox of Chicago; a host of grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters Lucille (Lawrence) Bea, Linda (John) Sullivan, Rose Johnson, Lesa (Mark) Highsmith, brothers Ollie Johnson, Johnny (Shari) Johnson, Jerry (Cindy) Lewis; and a host nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Willie “Big Man” Johnson, Albert “Just June” Johnson Jr, Lyndon Baines Johnson, and son Nehemiah “Miah” Rush.
