Leonard L. Axtell, 82, a Bettendorf resident for 60 years, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Please wear your favorite motorcycle or car shirt! Memorials may be made to the family.
Leonard was born on February 1, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa, son of Mahlon and Helen (Decker) Axtell. He was united in marriage to Eva M. Crimmel on January 12, 1962.
Leonard was the owner of Len’s Lawn Care. He had also worked at Claud Perry Chevrolet, Blackhawk Foundry, Royal Machine, Titan Wheel, and Franks Foundry for 30 years. He was a member of Jus'n Ol' Truck, Club, Volkswagen Club, Tri-City Motorcycle Club and Antique Tractor Club. Leonard enjoyed fishing, camping, hill climbing, drag racing and motorcycle racing. He was the mechanic for his son, Lloyds, race cars. He built a 1959 Chevy pickup that was his pride and joy. He also loved his dogs. Leonard never met a stranger and will be deeply missed.
Those left to honor is memory include his wife Eva, children Lloyd (DeAnne) Axtell and Marilyn (Marcus) McAllister-Snelling; grandchildren Joey, David, Josh, Sean and Jon (Ashley); great grandson Carter; and sister Mary Weaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Dickson; and brothers-in-law Jerry Weaver and Leo Dickson.
