A time to gather and celebrate the life of Leo R. Othmer, 80, of Davenport, will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Keeping with Leo’s wishes, cremation rites have taken place. Memorials may be made to C.A.S.I. or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. 

Leo died Thursday, December 5, 2024 at MercyOne-Genesis Medical Center, Davenport following an extended illness.

Leo was born on September 24, 1944 in Muscatine, a son of Wesley and Ruby (Mowl) Othmer. He proudly served our country in the Navy. Leo was united in marriage to Joan Heiser on February 2, 1990 in Davenport.

Leo worked for many years in sales for Bumper Exchange before buying a motel in Forsyth, Missouri for fifteen years. Leo and Joan retired back to Davenport in 2006. Leo pursued his passion for wood turning, making game calls and other beautiful wood items. 

Leo enjoyed duck and goose hunting, fishing, and regularly played euchre and bingo.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Joan, Davenport; children: Brooke (Rusty) Pancoast, Land O’ Lakes, Florida, Lucas Othmer, Iowa City, Tori (Brian) McCumsey, and Sean (Diana) Heiser, all of Davenport; grandchildren: Heather (Kevin), Lexi (Matt) Nicholas, Ty (Rhiannon), Brileigh (Alyssa), Grayson (Andi), and Presley; great-grandchildren: Amelia, Jilly, and Eli; sisters: Mary Jane (Bob) Fridley, Muscatine, Helen Harmon, Muscatine, and Barb (Floyd) Cooper, Stronghurst, Illinois; a sister-in-law Linda Othmer, Washington, Iowa and his many dear friends he made during his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Ted and Fred Othmer.
