Leatrice Malone

Funeral services celebrating the life of Leatrice J. Malone, 77, of Davenport, will be 5:30 pm Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bettendorf.  Burial will be private.  Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport and 4:30-5:30 pm Wednesday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Mrs. Malone passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Leatrice Joyce Kosarek was born July 8, 1940 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Francis and Rose (Liba) Kosarek.  She was united in marriage to Robert F. “Bob” Malone in 1960 in Clinton, Iowa.  He preceded her in death November 2, 2016.

Leatrice was employed as Food Service Director for Davenport Scott County YMCA for six years where she brought joy, laughter, Bingo, and her famous sloppy Joes to many.  Later, she served as the Food Service Director for the Department of Corrections, R.C.F. for 11 years, retiring in 2004.  While she worked there, Leatrice not only planned and prepared meals, but she also taught cooking skills and other life lessons to hundreds of residents who she lovingly referred to as "my babies."

Leatrice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was known for her incredible cooking skills, and she derived much delight in feeding everyone.  She had an extremely warm heart and was a “mother” to so many people outside of her family.  She was truly a beautiful soul who was dearly loved by everyone who crossed paths with her.  Leatrice enjoyed life by spending time with her family and donating to the local casinos (“only the penny slots though”).  She loved music and dancing and could often be found shaking it up on the local dance floors with friends and family.

She was an avid follower of the Royal family and often referred to herself as the “Queen.”  It was her dream to visit the Queen of England, and although she never made it to England’s throne, she will always be the Queen of our hearts.

Survivors include her children Angelique (Philip Reitinger) Malone, Jeffrey Malone, and Erik  (Kelly) Malone, all of Davenport; grandchildren Danielle, Katie, Abigail, Tyler, Max and Noah; greatgrandchildren Atalya and Rhythmic; nieces Susan McElroy and Vicki Malone; and her faithful dog, Dolly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her son Robert P. “Rob” Malone.
