A TIME TO BE BORN: Lawrence Pernell Sr; affectionately known as “Larry”, was born March 12, 1950, to the late James and Joyce “Minne” Pernell.
A TIME TO LIVE: Lawrence was born and raised in a large, loving family in Greenwood Mississippi. He relocated for a short time to Chicago, IL before settling into the Quad Cities area. During his time in Rock Island, he started his family and worked as a laborer at Swords Veneer and Lumber Co.
On September 8th, 1990 in West Point, Mississippi, Lawrence was blessed to marry the love of his life Sarah Quinn-Pernell. Lawrence and Sarah moved to Davenport, IA and spent 45 years together in bliss. This union raised 9 children: Ruby “Dee Dee” Sanders, Lawrence "Gangster" Pernell Jr., Anissa Quinn, Lashawn "Tweety" Pernell, Dashawn "Dooney" Pernell, Shawana Quinn, Lawrence “Buddy” (Julie) Pernell, Taneka “Smurf” Pernell, and Shaneka “Big Red” Pernell.
Lawrence was the ultimate Father, Husband, and Grandfather “Papa”. He was blessed with 21 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren.
He enjoyed creatively nicknaming his loved ones, vintage and classic cars, old school rap, as well as cheering his favorite football team the Chicago Bears!
A TIME TO BE REMEBERED: Lawrence made his transition from life to eternity on November 11th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Joyce “Minne” Pernell, Sisters: Alice Pernell, Millie Pernell, Janet Pernell, brother James Pernell Jr; and many other loved ones who has transitioned before him. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Tommy Pernell of Greenwood, MS and sister Sharen (Ronnie) Pernell-Gipson of Baton Rouge, LA, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
