Funeral services and Memorial Mass for Lawrence John “Larry” Allard, 81, of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. There will be additional visitation Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at church. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Care and Share Program.
Larry died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 6, 1941 in Davenport, a son of Dora (Couch) and William E. Allard, Sr. He was part of the first graduating class at Assumption High School in 1959. He then graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1962 with a degree in dental technology.
Larry was united in marriage to Donna Dolan on April 20, 1963 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulton, Illinois. They met in English class at St. Ambrose College where Donna was enrolled in nursing school and Larry studied prior to transferring to SIUC. They made their home and raised their family in Davenport, Iowa. Larry and Donna have shared almost 60 years of marriage together.
Larry was a dental technician at Allard Dental Lab before starting his own business Allard-Arguello Dental Prosthetics with his business partner, Jody Arguello. He was also a past president of the Iowa Dental Lab Association.
Larry was also an avid outdoor sportsman including hunting, boating, and fishing. He volunteered for the Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years. On most weekends he and Donna could be found enjoying time with family and friends boating on the Mississippi River.
They recently returned to Davenport following 17 years of retirement in Mt. Home, Arkansas where they made several friends and according to Larry, he caught tons of fish, too! Larry especially enjoyed his Tuesday morning fishing club breakfasts where many a fish tale were shared.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, sister, Mary Lou Hoefer, Highland Ranch, Colorado children: Colleen Allard (John Marczewski), Herrin, Illinois, John Allard-Lawson (Steen), Davenport, Iowa and Susan Weigel (Chris), Davenport, Iowa; five grandchildren: Nate Brennan (Raya Zimmerman), Plymouth, Minnesota, Sarah Weigel, Peoria, Illinois, Megan Shreves (Young), DeWitt, Iowa, Stanley Marczewski (Erin), Nashville, Tennessee, and Jessica Marczewski, Herrin, Illinois; great-grandchildren: Liam Brennan, Gwynith Hall, Cameron Ridgeway, and Quin Marczewski; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William Allard, Jr., Dr. Donald Allard, and Robert “Bud” Allard. May they rest in peace.
