Karen L. Thompson, 74, of Davenport, died Monday, February 17, 2025, at MercyOne-Genesis Medical Center, Davenport. Keeping with her wishes, cremation rites have taken place and private family services will be held. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the PAN (Patient Access Network) Foundation.

Karen Lee Weiting was born on June 8, 1950, in Davenport, the daughter of Donald V. and Lois W. (Imming) Weiting. She graduated from West High School and attended Northeast Missouri State College and Franciscan School of Nursing in Rock Island, earning a degree in nursing. Karen married Gary E. Thompson on September 20, 1969. From this union, their children: Jason and Karly were born.

Karen worked as a nurse for many years, most recently at Senior Star and with Genesis Hospice. She was a dedicated patient advocate, always prioritizing the needs of those in her care. She also worked in medical sales throughout her career.

She cherished her family, especially time spent with her grandchildren, and was very proud to follow all of their activities. She enjoyed fishing, golfing, and boating, and loved to play softball, continuing through adult leagues for many years.

Those left to honor her memory are her children: Jason (Amber) Thompson, Eldridge, Iowa, and Karly (Ben) Driscoll, Davenport; grandchildren: Dylan, Connor, Grace, Ryan, Sam, Marian, and Love; siblings: Dean (Jarrah) Weiting, Florida, and Sandra Fitzer, Davenport, sister-in-law, Joan (Jim) Smith, Wisconsin, brother-in-law, Kevin (Tena) Thompson, Wisconsin, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her children’s father, Gary, her children’s paternal grandparents, Marian and Lavern, and a nephew, Josh Plum.
