Karen Christine Warman was born on September 16, 1953 in St. Joseph, Missouri, a daughter of Louise (Brown) and Ronald Warman, Sr. She graduated from Olathe North High School in 1971 and then from Kansas State University with a bachelors in Spanish. Karen then earned her masters degree in Spanish linguistics from University of Colorado. She was united in marriage to Brian E. Dugan on November 25, 1998 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. They met at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greeley, Colorado while holding hands during the Our Father and later their cars were parked next to each other.
Karen taught Spanish at Colorado State University and Colorado College, Colorado Springs, before Brian took her to Alaska for four years. In Alaska, she taught at Alaska Pacific University and the University of Alaska-Anchorage. When the Dugan’s moved back to Colorado, Karen taught and was a student advisor at Front Range Community College at multiple campuses. Following a move to the Quad Cities, Karen was a student advisor at Black Hawk College from 2013 until her retirement in 2021. With her fluency in Spanish, she enjoyed helping the Hispanic population navigate their education and opening the doors for them.
To say Karen was a devout Catholic would be putting it mildly. A convert to the faith in adulthood, she made Adoration and receiving the Eucharist daily a priority, she was the epitome of a “Roaming” Catholic always knowing where to find Mass on both sides of the river. Traveling with Karen meant an opportunity to stop and pray at a shrine or religious site. Her retirement allowed her the opportunity to devote more time to prayer groups, bible studies, C.E.W. and speakers that would enhance her faith.
Those left to honor Karen’s memory are her husband, Brian, LeClaire; sisters, Connie (Bruce) Boettcher, Overland Park, Kansas and Kathleen Warman, Longmont, Colorado; stepsiblings: Cindy (Lee) Penner, Larry (JoLinda) Louk, Cloyde (Sharon) Louk, Cindy Sheridan, and Bob (Peggy) Marlin; a special niece, Staci (GJ) Haarhuis and their kids, Connor, Keatin, Colman, Kylar, and Creed as well as 23 nephews and nieces and 36 great nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ron, Jr., and a stepsister, Kathy Payne.
