Judy died unexpectedly Thursday, January 4, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.
Judith Ann Allen was born October 27, 1935 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, a daughter of James K. and Mildred E. (Endean) Allen. She graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy, where she formed several life-long friendships.
She attended nursing school after ICA, and during this time met the love of her life, Thomas Joseph Crowley. They were united in marriage on December 29, 1956 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport; Judy then became a loving, wife, and soon after, a loving mother and homemaker. Tom preceded her in death on March 26, 2008. They had been blessed with five children and over 52-years of marriage at the time of his passing.
Judy was a beautiful spirit and her smile and energy were evident when she entered any room. She was a loving wife and mother and a doting “grandma Judy”. She cherished time spent with her family, her “Bridge Clubs”, and her childhood friends and their extended families.
She was a nearly life-time member of St. Mary’s Parish, and had been a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a frequent volunteer at the parish. She was also a Genesis Auxiliary Member.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to Handicapped Development Center.
Those left to honor her memory include her five children and their spouses, Cindy (Tom) Peterson, Phoenix, Arizona, Jim (Mary) Crowley, West Branch, Iowa, Jody (Chip) Hesse, Grand Mound, Iowa, Nancy (Jim) Renkes, Davenport, and Colleen (Miguel) Crespo, Watford City, North Dakota; 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, a sister, Linda (Bob) Prescott, Goodyear, Arizona, and a brother in law, Paul Gebhardt.
In addition to her husband, Tom, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Theresa Crowley, and a sister, Phyl Gebhardt. May they rest in peace.
