Joyce was born on February 11, 1936, in Davenport, the daughter of Edward and Vel (Jochim) Carstensen. On June 2, 1956, she married Joseph McAllister, with whom she shared a beautiful life until his passing on February 12, 1998.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Joyce was known for her generous heart and her unwavering kindness. She was always ready to lend a hand to those in need and had a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone she met. She never complained, even in difficult circumstances, and her positive outlook on life was an inspiration to all.
Joyce was an active member of the Red Hat Society and loved being part of a card club in her younger years. She found joy in family camping trips, and after her husband’s retirement, she cherished winters spent in the warmth of the Texas sun with Joe. After Joseph’s passing, Joyce worked at McDonald’s for over 20 years, where her warmth and dedication earned her many friendships. Above all, her greatest joy came from time spent with her cherished children and grandchildren
She is survived by her children, Jim (Debbie) McAllister, Jane (Randy) Huber, Julianne (Kirk) Hansen, John McAllister, Jeff McAllister, and Jennifer (Vince) Burke; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Ed Carstensen, Allan (Cathy) Carstensen, Judy Shook, and Marti (Tom) Hempel.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, her brothers John and Kenny Carstensen, a sister-in-law Joyce Carstensen, and a brother-in-law Gerald Shook.
Joyce’s love for her family, her faith, and her community will leave a lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
