Funeral services to celebrate the life of Joyce (Joy) L. Aguilar, 77, of Davenport, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. The services will be livestreamed by visiting this page Monday morning. Private burial will be held in Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Quad City Humane Society, or Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc, in Pittsburg, Kansas. Joy passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport.Joyce Lynn Davis was born on July 20, 1944 in Steubenville, Ohio, a daughter of Eleanor (Haller) McMurray and Hugh Davis. She was married to Jerry Childers from 1962 until 1981 and later married Robert Aguilar on July 20, 1991 in Girard, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2006.Joy was well known for her exceptional cooking and maternal nature. Nobody was a stranger at Joy's table. Beyond catering for families and events around the Quad Cities, Joy professionally cooked for many priests in the Diocese of Davenport including St. Alphonsus, Sacred Heart Cathedral, and Our Lady of Lourdes. In her later years she cared for her son, Todd through his extended illness. Joy often said 'being a grandmother was the best job she ever had' and she excelled at it; so much so that one could not count the amount of people, relation or friend, who called her 'their Gram'.Joy loved live music, especially the blues. She loved her Cubs, Steelers and Chiefs. If you were at Joy's house on a game day you needed to be up on your sports.She meant so much to so many, she will be missed greatly and loved always.Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Trish (Mark) Zinger, granddaughters: Sarah (Ryan Croegaert) Zinger, Hannah (Dionis) Serrano, all of Davenport, and Ashley (Michael) Rabbitt, Wellsburg, Iowa; a great grandson, Rory; siblings, Norma Edlemon, Davenport, Sharon Mitchell, Madison, Wisconsin, Tracy (Rick) Faucett, Arma, Kansas, and Laura (Michael) Ackerman, Wichita, Kansas, and many very special loving nieces and nephews; escpecially her very special Marine Gunnery Sergeant (Ret) Bradley LeClair.In addition to her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by her son, Todd Childers, her parents, step-father, Dr. William McMurray II, brother-in-laws; Dale LeClair and Jim Edlemon.The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Genesis Visiting Nurses, Fresenius Kidney Care, and special friend from St. Anthony’s, Mary for the physical and spiritual care of Joy.
