Joseph Winckler

Joseph Paul Winckler, age 75, of Davenport, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held at 11:30 am, Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, where the Service will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery on December 7, 2023.

Joseph was born on November 21, 1948, in Iowa City, to Joseph and Harriett (White) Winckler. After graduating from Davenport Central High, he attended Augustana College on football and wrestling scholarships.

He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard from 1970 -1973.

On November 24, 1973, Joseph married his love and best friend, Cindy Reynolds in Davenport. They just celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Joe finished his college degree at St. Ambrose University while working for Bettendorf Schools. He was then a journeyman electrician for 25 years.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and cheering on the Hawkeyes. He volunteered at the German American Heritage Center and for local Democrats.

Joe made friends everywhere he went and could always make people laugh. He loved his friends and family unconditionally. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Courtney (Jeff) Schemmel; son, Joseph (Jennifer) Winckler; and Papa’s grandchildren who he loved dearly: EJ, Haley, Meghan, Sam, Alex and Jack. His puppy, Riley.

Additional survivors include: sisters: Linda (Alan) Neubauer, Cynthia (Skip) Wendler, Corrine (Kevin) Fritz, and brothers: Robert (Mary Kaye), Russell (Barb), Michael (Deb) and Patrick. Joe is also survived by sister-in-law Pat Reynolds and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister LuAnne Powers, Cindy’s brother and parents Stephen, Ruth and Lou Reynolds.
