Joseph C. Vize, 74, of Bettendorf, died Friday, January 26, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. A Mass of Christian Burial for Joe will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 until 4p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. There will be additional visitation at church Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa.
Joseph Charles Vize was born on January 10, 1944 in Davenport, a son of Mary B. (Burdt) and Alfred Francis Vize. He graduated from St. Ambrose University with a degree in physics and later completed his Master’s degree at Augustana College. Joe was united in marriage to Carren A. Hintze on September 27, 1975 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport.
Joe worked for over 34 years as an engineer at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 2011.
He had a great passion for golf, and played most of his rounds at the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Course. He also enjoyed home remodel projects; often times for family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carren, Bettendorf; children and their spouses: Jennifer (Troy) Stimpson, Bettendorf, Stephen (Jamie) Vize, Des Moines, Gregory (Ashleigh) Vize, Austin, Texas, grandchildren: Tyler, Lola, Cameron, and Alexis; siblings: Mary Soeder and Robert Vize, both of Bettendorf; a nephews, Christopher Soeder, Dallas, Georgia and his daughter, Charley Soeder.
He was preceded in death by his parents. May they rest in peace.Visits: 27
