Joseph Ambrose Grubisich Jr., of Blue Grass IA passed away on December 30, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital at the age of 77. Born on January 13,1947 in Davenport he was the son of Joseph and Sybil Grubisich Sr.
Visitation will be held at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 8th from 4pm - 7pm. A prayer service will be held at 4pm. A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at The Circle Tap, Saturday, January 11th from 1pm-5pm. Memorials may be made to Scott County Humane Society or Muscatine Humane Society.
Joseph married Kathryn Costello Kingsley on July 27, 1984 in Orlando, FL and they shared a life filled with love and companionship.
A standout All State basketball player at West High School, he was recruited in 1965 to the University of North Dakota, where is continued to excel athletically. One of Joe's biggest highlights of his life was to be teammates and roommates with Coach Phil Jackson of the Chicago Bulls. Afterward he pursued a law degree at the University of Iowa, which paved the way for a distinguished career in law and public services.
After graduating from the University of Iowa he served as a JAG officer in the Air Force and then as an Assistant Iowa Attorney General and District Prosecutor for the 7th Judicial District. In 1978 Joe served as Vice President and Senior Trust Officer at First Trust and Savings Bank in Davenport before transitioning to his roles in public prosecution. For the past 36 years Joe was a dedicated prosecuting Attorney for Scott County Iowa where he remained active in his profession until his passing.
Beyond his professional achievements, Joe was a cherished member of his community. His love for the Iowa Hawkeyes was unparalleled and he enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm with friends and family. Joe's life was filled with joyful pursuits, including traveling to the Caribbean and Punta Cana Dominican Republic, attending the Iowa County Attorney's Training Conference at Lake Okoboji with Rob Cusack, and spending time with his dogs, grandchildren and his beloved wife, Kathy. He found happiness in his yard, lounging in his swimming pool and working on his home projects, as well as in the camaraderie of making salsa, marinara, dancing and singing to oldies, and sharing beers with his neighbor, Ralph Hughes.
Joe is remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the deep respect he earned from colleagues, friends and the community. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joseph is survived by his wife Kathryn Costello Kingsley Grubisich, a son Damon (Paula) Kingsley II and daughters Dawn Seibel and Heidi Kingsley, Grandchildren Taylor Seibel, Brady Seibel, Kalina (Alex) Hall, Damon Kingsley III, Chevelle Kingsley, Bradley (Cambria) Denger, Brandi (Walker) Cox. Great Grandchildren Scott Hall, Octavia Hall, Hayden Andrews and a set of twin boys on the way, James Oliver Cox and Riley Otto Cox, a brother Larry (Faye) Grubisich, a sister Patricia (Brett) Drone.
Joe's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
