Joseph "Chi" Moreno

November 5, 1929 — August 8, 2024

Joseph “Chi” Moreno, 94, of Davenport, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Iowa SIDS Foundation or University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. 

 Chi was born on November 5, 1929 in Sterling, Illinois, son of Praxedis and Teresa (Paramo) Moreno. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Quijas on February 20, 1954. He is a Veteran of the Army, and worked 30+ years as a tool and die maker at International Harvester/ Case IH. After retirement, Joe and Carolyn opened and maintained Rudy’s Tacos in Milan for twenty-three years. 

 Chi enjoyed spending time with his family, spoiling his grandchildren, playing golf, listening to Mexican music, playing percussion and trumpet, a good game of solitaire, fresh tamales, and traveling with Carolyn. 

 Those left to honor his memory include wife Carolyn; six children, Jeffery Moreno, Julianne (Robert) Aye, Jerome Moreno, James Moreno, Jennifer (Bradley) Quick, and Jacqueline (Lane) VanMeighem; nine grandchildren Alyssa (Rich), Charlotte (Nick), Kayla, Madeline (Scott), Paxton (Maria), Ysabel, Kathryn, McKenna (Michael), and Adam; great grandchildren, Richie, Sam, Alma, Palmer, Sylas, with one more to come in November, and countless nieces and nephews. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; Elvira Delgado, Mary Barajas, Annie Cervantes, Eleanor Carrasco, and Juanita Amesquita; three brothers King, Proco, and Sam Moreno; Melissa Boone (partner of James); and granddaughter, Jessica VanMeighem. 

 Joe will be missed for his sense of humor, love for his friends/family, kindness, and contagious laugh.
