John Small

John Thomas Small, 82, a resident of Eldridge, died Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme in Davenport.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Long Grove. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Thursday at church. Burial will be at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Long Grove. Memorials may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or St. Ann’s Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport is assisting the family with arrangements.

John was born June 19, 1938 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the son of James H. and Elizabeth A. (Znidersic) Small. He served our country in the United States Navy. John married Julianne M. Schmidt, June 13, 1964. She preceded him in death January 31, 2008.

John worked as a salesman for Brach’s Candy for 15 years and Schmeltzer Brokerage for 25 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church, Eldridge Jaycees, past member of the Knights of Columbus, charter member of Waterfowl U.S.A. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his friends.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Beth Small of Eldridge, Jim (Jennifer) Small of Granger, Indiana, and Tom (Kama) Small of Grinnell, Iowa; grandchildren, Caitlin (William) Maass, Courtney (Kent Reimers) Nagle, Lucas Small, Logan Small, Anna Small, Emily Small, and Amanda Small; great-granddaughter, Adalyn; sister, Margaret (Richard) Pfohl of Edina, Minnesota; niece and nephews, Richard, Matthew, Peter, and Molly; and special friend, Shara Robinson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
