John P. Jensen, 75, of Bettendorf, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Unity Point Trinity Medical Center.
John Paul Jensen was born October 18, 1943, in Chicago, the son of Walter and Katrine (Andreasen) Jensen. He graduated from Moline High School and then served our country in the Army. He was united in marriage to Theresa Hart on May 20, 1983 in Davenport.
Prior to his retirement, he had been a manager for the former Eagle Foods and then as an insurance agent for the Catholic Order of Foresters.
John’s presence in a room was marked by two things: the sweet aroma from his signature pipe and his raspy, boisterous laugh, which was usually preceded by a one-liner or a kooky greeting. John was happiest around a card table, on the golf course, or at the dinner table with a meal prepared by Theresa and shared with family and friends. The great joy John felt in these places was elevated only by the addition of a cold cocktail in his hand.
Being adopted, the bond of family was very important to John. He was deeply proud of his two daughters, enjoyed time spent with his son-in-law, and reveled in a round of euchre with his brothers-in-law. Together, John and Theresa created a home full of hospitality, generosity, tradition, and love.
Survivors include his wife Theresa, Bettendorf; daughters Makaila (Otto) Nobis, Davenport, Melissa Jensen, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Willa Jane Nobis and Felix Thomas Nobis (who was born on John’s birthday this last October); and cousins Grace, Shirley, Marshall, and Floyd. His parents preceded him in death.
Memorial services and Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Jensen will be 11am Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 – 18th St, Bettendorf. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10am until time of service at the church. Per his wish the rite of cremation will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the church.
