John L. Frueh, 62, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, January 1, 2021 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. A private memorial service will be held with burial at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Riverbend Food Bank (riverbendfoodbank.org).
John was born February 9, 1958 in Davenport, the son of Lloyd J. and Janice (Merrill) Frueh. John worked for MidAmerican Energy, beginning with Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric in 1980.
John was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He enjoyed gardening, attending the farmers market, and meeting with friends after work on Friday nights. John was very active in city government, assisting on numerous boards and commissions, and served as chairman of the Historical Preservation Commission.
Those left to honor his memory include his siblings, Michael (Lois) Frueh of Davenport, Barbara Wright of Bettendorf, and Bill (Sue) Frueh of Waunakee, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Janice (Joe Fiorenzi) Frueh, Jacob Frueh, Jared (Amanda) Frueh, Ally (Adam) Schmidt, and Megan (David) Rauzi; and a great-niece, Jorja Fiorenzi.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
