Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for John M. “Marty” Crowley, 77, a resident of Bettendorf will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1506 Brown Street, Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport, where all are invited to join the family for a prayer service at 4:00p.m. There will be an additional visitation Thursday at church from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or American Legion Post 154, Bettendorf.

Marty passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

John Martin Crowley was born March 3, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa the son of John Augustine and Helen Catherine (Lasack) Crowley. Marty was a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic School, DeWitt. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army.

Marty was united in marriage to Shirley Beard on November 14, 1964 at Our Lady of Lourdes, Bettendorf. They have shared 53 years of marriage together.

Marty had worked as a Heat and Frost Insulator with Local 81 out of Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1997.

Marty was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish where he served as a Lector. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 154, Bettendorf where he served as treasurer and enjoyed volunteering at the Mississippi Valley Blood Bank, driving Ronald McDonald to his many appearances, and was active in Cub Scouts for many years.

Marty cherished his family, especially enjoying family gatherings and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, a good western on T.V., tinkering, fixing, and building things, feeding the birds, fishing, walking, and was an avid reader.

Among survivors are his wife, Shirley, Bettendorf; his children and their spouses, Timothy (Karen) Crowley, Des Moines, IA, Myra (Matt) Mitchell, Philip (Shannon) Crowley, Mark (Tracy) Crowley all of Bettendorf.; 14 grandchildren Christina, J.T. and Joe Crowley, Kal, Carly and Lauren Mitchell, Cody and Dalton Cale, Henry, Thomas and Sarah Crowley, Max, Ethan and Ava Crowley; a great granddaughter, Addie; 3 sisters, Rosemary (Bud) McGlone, and Kathryn Strodtman both of DeWitt, and Maurine (Dick) Huppert, Hager City, Wis.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Sharon Green.
