John Thomas Brophy, 85, of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for John will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 417 N. Main Street, Davenport. John will be laid to rest in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass in the gathering space at church. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Parish. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
John was born March 12, 1938 in Sterling, Illinois, to James Connor and Marie Brophy. John graduated from Newman High School in Sterling. He served in the Navy. John graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Wheeling, Illinois and was a proud funeral director/embalmer, licensed for 64 years. He married Mary Louise Glaub on June 6, 1959. They enjoyed over 63 years of marriage.
John owned and operated Quad-City Water Technology for 30 years. He was associated with Central Discussion, the St. Patrick's Society, and the Mississippi Valley Funeral Directors Association. John enjoyed entertaining anyone who would listen, with stories of his many adventures.
Surviving is his wife, Mary, of 63 years, children; Joseph (Carol) Brophy, Bettendorf, Anne (Bob) Klingborg, Rock Island, Michael (Patricia) Brophy, North Carolina, Thomas (Denna) Brophy, Geneseo, Bridget Cravero, Bettendorf, and Matthew Brophy, Florida; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the Kahl Home and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their excellent care.
