Joe Karwath

Joseph A. Karwath, 61, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf following a brief illness.

A visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home followed by a short service and time of sharing at 4 p.m. Please dress casually! A private burial will take place at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Joseph Andrew Karwath was born on October 29, 1963 in Davenport, a son of Melvin R. and Therese M. (Scott) Karwath. He was united in marriage to Deborah A. Darby on November 10, 1984 at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Joe retired from American Honda following 35 years of service in 2018.

He was Mr. Fix-It to anyone who needed help, and was usually their first call. If Joe couldn’t fix it, he knew someone that would. He never met a stranger. Joe enjoyed a good steak and brownie for dessert, and yearly trips to Marco Island, as well as Sunday cards with his family. He’ll be missed by all who knew him.

Those left to honor Joe’s memory are his wife, Debbie, of Bettendorf; daughters: Kimberly (Tim) Holt, Davenport and Kelly (Jeff) Lafrenz, all of Davenport; grandchildren: Aleera and Ollie; siblings: John (Margie) Karwath, Sterling, Illinois, Rose Haas, Henry (Maribeth) Karwath, Kathleen Hathaway, all of Davenport, Julie (Les) Greenwood, Milan, and Margaret (John) Conger, Buffalo; many nieces and nephews, extended family, and a special friend, Jim Tappa.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Scott Karwath, Mary Weaver, and Pat David.
