Joe Guizar

August 10, 1943 — July 6, 2024

“Joe” Lorenzo Guizar, 80, of Buffalo, formerly of Lowden, passed away, Saturday, July 6, 2024 at his home.

 Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, July 15, 2024 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 pm, Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family, PO Box 213, Buffalo, Iowa, 52728.

 Joe was born on August 10, 1943, in “Cook’s Point” of Davenport, son of Carlos Guizar and Esperanza (Lopez) Martinez. He was united in marriage to Mary Krocheski December 30, 1988.

 As a young child Joe and his family lived in a box car in Buffalo. Joe was a proud Navy Veteran and served in the military the same time as his five brothers. He was a member of the Lowden American Legion, DAV and AmVets. He enjoyed driving his truck and was a truck driver for Transcon for over 20 years retiring in 1989. He also found joy in Western movies, fishing, and going to the casino. He had a love for making ceramics. Above all he loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. 

 Those left to honor his memory include wife, Mary; children Joe Guizar and Tammy Guizar; step-sons Roger Radloff and Jeff Radloff; grandchildren Amber (Tony) Stephens and Kelsey (Robert) Fitzmaurice; four great-grandchildren; siblings John Guizar, Hilbert Martinez, Willie (Nancy) Guizar and Vincent (Lupe) Martinez; special friend Bill Carson; special cat Shadow; and several nieces and nephews. 

 He was preceded in death by parents and siblings Frank Martinez, Ray Martinez, Florence Martinez, Aurora Martinez, Guadalupe Serrano and Adella Martinez. 

 The family would like to thank the VA and Genesis Hospice for their patience & loving care.
