Joan Timmons

 Joan Timmons, 90, of Davenport, died Thursday, July 25, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Blue Grass. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with a prayer service offered at the conclusion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Assumption High School or Women’s Choice Center. 

The third daughter of John J and Okie Phillips, Doris Joan Timmons was born on July 16th, 1934. Joan graduated from the University of Kansas in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She married her sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Timmons in Chula, MO on June 9th, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2023.

Joan’s faith was very important to her, and she deeply wanted to help others in their own journeys toward Christ. She graduated with her Masters of Pastoral Studies from St. Ambrose University in 1994 and she became a certified spiritual counselor in 2004. Joan spent many hours serving her Davenport community with organizations such as Fr. Conroy’s Vineyard of Hope, Marquette Academy and Birthright. She also provided great comfort and joy to those in hospice. Joan introduced many Christians to the beauty of centering prayer through the Contemplative Outreach organization.

Joan delighted in those she loved. Her home was a gathering place for many friends and family members, filled with the particular peace and warmth that Joan possessed. Joan had a special fondness for music, and family events often involved her breaking out the accordion, playing the piano or encouraging everyone to sing. Always the green thumb, Joan kept a beautiful garden that she and Bob loved to use for birdwatching. Despite health challenges of the past 5 years, Joan displayed a graceful and unwavering devotion to Bob- a beacon for those trying to live a Christ-centered marriage.

Joan is survived and lovingly remembered by her seven children: Bob (Ann) Timmons, Mike (Mary), Timmons, Bill Timmons, Beth (Dan) Laubenthal, Mary (Chris) Wessling, John (Dawn) Timmons, Dan (Kelly) Timmons. Her twenty-six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren will greatly miss their Grandma.
