Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome A. “Jerry” Schebler, 98, a resident of Davenport will be 10am, Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 N. Fillmore Street, Davenport.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4-7pm, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, and will begin with a prayer service at 4pm that all are encouraged to attend.  Memorials may be made to the church or a favorite charity.

Mr. Schebler passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Jerome Aloysius Schebler was born June 20, 1924, in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Edward Aloysius and Clara Agnes (Otten) Schebler.   He attended the former St. Ambrose Academy and was proud to have served our country in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Severina “Pat” Sebben on September 25, 1948, at Holy Family Church.  They were blessed with over 68 years of marriage at the time of her passing on March 14, 2017.

Mr. Schebler retired in 1977 as a division chief for the Rock Island Arsenal.  He had been chief of the Prototype Division while working for the Arsenal.  He had also worked part-time from 1952 until 1985 at the former family business, The Schebler Company.  After his retirement he did volunteer work for CASI, the Sisters of Humility, Holy Family Church and All Saints Catholic School.

           Jerry was an avid athlete, and had been a pitcher while at St. Ambrose Academy, and played semi-pro baseball while at Lockburn Airbase in Ohio, and for the Muscatine Red Sox.  He also played locally for the Friendly House.  He enjoyed hunting and had been an AVID fisherman.

In addition to the church, his memberships included an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 26, Isaak Walton League, NRA, and a former member of the Moose. 

           Those left to honor his memory include, his children and their spouses, David and Karen Schebler, Davenport, Barbara and James Shipley, Davenport, Nancy Goldsmith, Davenport, Judith and Michael Moffitt, Creston, Iowa, Robert and Christine Schebler, Olathe, Kansas, Lisa Heber, Davenport, James and Amy Schebler, Davenport; thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Roberta) Schebler, and Tom (Jeanne) Schebler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and staffs of Jersey Ridge Place and the Kahl Home for exceptional care given to Jerry.

In addition to his wife Pat, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert, John, Joe, Richard and Charles, and sister Marie Brus.  May they rest in peace.
