Jeanette Spiekermeier was born April 24, 1929 in St. Paul, Iowa, a daughter of Henry and Cecilia (Menke) Spiekermeier. She was united in marriage to Cletus Bergthold on August 13, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2014 after close to 68 years of marriage. Cletus and Jeanette were charter members of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
Jeanette worked as an assembler/packager for Red Jacket Pump for most of her working career, but her main job was raising her 9 children. She loved shopping, always looking for the perfect gift for every occasion. Christmas was her favorite holiday and allowed her to lavish her generosity on everyone, while having all her family together under one roof. Jeanette and Cletus lived in Blue Grass for 35 years, until moving to Silvercrest Retirement Village in 2010. There, she would grow to love the friendship and pampering received by all the staff. Despite her many health challenges over the years, Jeanette would be described as tough and resilient, and we are greatly saddened by her passing and will miss her great smile.
Those left to honor Jeanette’s memory include her children and their spouses: Joyce Kerr, Blue Grass; Dennis Bergthold, Davenport; Judy (Bill) Shipley, Blue Grass; Janet Edwards, and Joann (Mike) Vinzenz, all of Davenport; David (Cindy) Bergthold, Bennett, Iowa; Jackie (Jerry) Stoltenberg, Maysville; Julie Bradshaw, Chandler, Arizona; and Danny (Sarah) Bergthold, Davenport; 23 grandchildren, many, many, many great-grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews and extended family including a special niece, Tina Sims, Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus, her canine companion Tator, 3 sisters and a brother. May they rest in peace.
