Jean passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Kahl Home, Davenport surrounded by her family.
Jean Ann Leonard was born on August 15, 1924 in Davenport, the youngest of nine children born to Agnes P. (Dwyer) and Michael J. Leonard. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy, Davenport. Jean was united in marriage to Jerome D. “Jerry” Tonn on June 19, 1954 at Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, Iowa. They shared almost 63 years of marriage together before Jerry’s death on March 8, 2017. Jean and Jerry were the proud parents of nine children.
Jean’s life revolved around her family, as the matriarch of the Tonn clan, her home on Belle Avenue was the hub of all family’s activities for fifty-three years and always had an open-door policy and a sweet treat to greet you with. Holidays were always a special time around the Tonn home.
Jean was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith and proud of her Irish Heritage. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where she volunteered with the Care and Share (McAnthony’s Window) Program. She was a nurturer, caretaker, and quick-witted and continued to pass on her wisdom and life lessons until she was called Home. Jean read the paper daily, staying up on current events, and always had an opinion! She cherished her naps, coffee, pancakes, crosswords, and scrabble. Once the kids were grown, Jean and Jerry enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, Alaska, Canada, and the western United States.
Memorials may be made to the Kahl Home.
