Jean Sheedy

Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Jean Carr Sheedy, 93, a resident of Davenport and formerly of Ottumwa will be 10:00 am Friday, February 16, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1506 Brown Street, Bettendorf, Iowa. Her son the Rev. Timothy J. Sheedy will be the celebrant. The family will greet friends in the Gathering Space at the church Thursday, from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 pm that all are invited to attend. There will be additional visitation Friday one hour prior to Mass. Burial and graveside services will be 3:30 pm Friday in Calvary Cemetery, Ottumwa.

Jean died peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Kahl Home in Davenport.

The Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Regina Veronica Carr was born September 18, 1924 in Weller, Iowa, a daughter of Frank and Jane (O’Brien) Carr. She graduated from Ottumwa Heights and then attended William Penn College, Oskaloosa, earning her teaching certificate.

She was united in marriage to Donald Leo Sheedy, October 11, 1945, in Weller, Iowa. Don preceded her in death on May 2, 1993.

Jean had been a member of St. Mary’s and later, St. Patrick’s Church in Ottumwa.

Her greatest joy in life was her family and her faith. She was so proud of her children and their families. “She was loved by many……..she was a mom and grandma to all.”

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to any of her parishes or to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Those left to honor her memory include children and their spouses, Beverly (Mike) Harris, Scottsdale, Arizona; Rev. Tim Sheedy, Solon, Iowa; Larry (Dr. Paula), Davenport; Donald (Rhonda) , Burlington, Iowa; Ronald (Terry), Eldridge, Iowa; David (Tammy) Phoenix, Arizona; and Sandra (Phil) Sisson, Moline, Illinois; 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, a sister, Marge Bates, Bettendorf; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, a son, Robert “Bob” Sheedy, and 2 sisters and 4 brothers also preceded her in death.
