Jay Linnberg

John “Jay” Linnberg, 79, of Davenport, died Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 4 until 7p.m. with a brief prayer and family sharing held at 6:30 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will take place at a later date at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Charlotte, Iowa.

Jay was born on December 15, 1945 in Moline, Illinois, a son of John C. and Joann F. (Barth) Linnberg. He graduated from Central High School in 1964, where he was a state champion swimmer, participated in Navy ROTC and worked for Farmall during his high school years. He briefly attended the University of Iowa before enlisting in the Navy, serving our country from 1965 until 1969. Jay was united in marriage to Joanne McAleer on August 26, 1978. Following their marriage, Jay and Joanne moved to California where Jay worked for Chevron for 3 years.

Jay had a passion for motor vehicles and worked as a mechanic around Davenport, including Schwind-Boeker, Inc. He was often found in his garage, fixing and restoring cars, and spent a number of years stock car racing. He prioritized family over work and was happiest spending time with his grandchildren in his later years.

Jay is survived by his wife, Joanne McAleer, Davenport; sons: Jim (Jennifer Krauter) Linnberg, Seattle, BJ (Courtney Wilson) Linnberg, Minneapolis, Jan (Ash) Linnberg, and Jeff (Meagan Vandemaat) Linnberg, all of Davenport; grandchildren: Abraham, Oliver, Frank, Uly, Mabel, Arthur, Arlene, and Bailey; and a brother, Jeff (Angie) Linnberg, Palos Verdes Estates, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
