Janice Uitenbroek, loving wife, caring mother, and proud grandmother, died on December 5, 2018 at the age of 74, in Johnston, IA, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Janice will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 16550 290th St, Long Grove. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday from 9 until 11a.m. at church. Memorials may be made to: St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

Janice was born on January 27, 1944 in Madison, WI to Nathan and Lucille (Schernecker) Baker. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1962 and Dominican College and Sisters Convent in Racine, WI in 1967. Following her schooling, she taught high school English in Little Chute, WI.
She married Mark Uitenbroek on May 12, 1972 in Madison, WI. After living a short time in Horicon, WI, they moved to Park View, IA where they raised three boys, Nathan, Aaron, and Peter. Janice served as the religious education coordinator for St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove, IA for several decades and finished her career teaching at Lourdes in Bettendorf, IA. Janice also served several terms on the North Scott School Board. Janice lived a life of service to God, family, friends, and neighbors. Her faith in God was an inspiration and comfort to many.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband Mark, her parents Nathan and Lucille Baker, and brother-in-law Jim Severson. She is survived by her three sons, their wives, and her eight grandchildren. Nathan and Jennifer Uitenbroek (Jackson, Owen) in Dickinson, TX. Aaron and Lynsey Uitenbroek (Katie, Chloe, Avery) in Johnston, IA. Peter and Stephanie Uitenbroek (Maggie, Stella, Molly) in Lake St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers and their spouses: Donna and William Showers, Bonnie Severson, Rod and Laurie Baker, Robert and Marilyn Baker, and Luanne and John Fajans.
