Janice R. Messenger, 78, a resident of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals surrounded by her family. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. Burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. The family will greet friends from 12:30 until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.
Janice Rae Watson was born on July 19, 1939 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Mildred (Lewis) Watson. She was member of the 1957 class of Washington High School. Janice was united in marriage to Harold E. Messenger, Jr. on December 23, 1955 in Iowa City. They recently shared their 62 wedding anniversary.
Jan worked for many years as an operations officer at Brenton National Bank, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed counted cross-stitching, reading, and looking for bargains at garage sales. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends where there was also a good time to be had and laughs to share.
Janice is survived by her loving husband, Harold, children: Michael and Marsha Messenger, all of Davenport; sisters, Maxine Kaemmerling, Escondido, California, and Betty Quinn, Washington, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her mother, grandmother, Anna Lewis, and a brother, Harold Watson. May they rest in peace.Visits: 20
